Understanding training and workshops

Schools and professionals play a key role in supporting children's communication. Training is a way to share practical tools, explore real questions, and build confidence across the whole team, not just in individual sessions.

I offer bespoke training and workshops for:
• teachers, teaching assistants and classroom teams
• SENDCos and inclusion leads
• speech and language therapists
• other professionals supporting children's communication

Workshops are built around the strengths and needs of your setting. We focus on approaches you can use right away, with examples drawn from real school contexts.
Why I offer training

Communication develops through everyday interactions, discussions, play, questions, routines. When staff feel confident supporting those moments, children are able to participate more fully and feel understood.

Training gives teams practical, evidence-informed strategies they can use straight away. It is designed to support consistency across classrooms and adults, helping children communicate and learn with greater ease.
Who it's for

Training is designed for people who support children in learning and communication, including:
• teachers and teaching assistants
• school and SEND leadership teams
• speech and language therapy teams
• professionals working in early years, primary, and secondary settings

Training for parents is available when delivered through a school or organisation.
How it works
We'll start with a short, free phone call to explore what you're looking for and whether my training is the right fit for your setting. If you'd like to move forward, we can book a planning session to shape the content around your goals.

A typical process looks like:
• Initial call (15 minutes - free)
A chance to clarify your priorities, questions and hoped-for outcomes.
• Planning session (30-60 minutes - paid at standard session rate)
We tailor the focus to your setting and learners. I'll send a short proposal outlining the session aims, format and costs before booking.
• Training delivered (in person or online - paid)
Practical strategies, examples and tools shaped to your curriculum and team.

Training can be offered as a one-off workshop or as part of ongoing support across a term. Each step is collaborative, transparent and designed to make sure the training is relevant and useful from the start.

My approach to training
I design training that is practical, evidence-informed and rooted in real classroom experiences. Rather than offering generic presentations, sessions are shaped around the strengths, priorities and questions of your team.

We explore how communication develops and what supports fit across the school day, drawing on current clinical evidence and educational practice. The focus is on strategies that are achievable, adaptable and relevant to your setting.

Training is collaborative. We reflect on what is already working well, problem-solve challenges together and build approaches that promote participation, independence and confidence for pupils.

My aim is sustainable change: tools and understanding that staff can apply immediately, adapt over time and share with others.
Questions you might have
Do you offer training online or only in person?
I offer both. Online training works well for after-school sessions or when staff are spread accoss multiple sites. In-person sessions are ideal when we want hands-on practice, live coaching, or collaborative planning,

How long is a typical session?
Most sessions are 60-90 minutes, but longer workshops or whole-day sessions can be arranged if you'd like time for practical activities, coaching, or action planning.

Can training be tailored to our school's needs?
Yes. Training starts with a conversation about your pupils, staff, and priorities. I design sessions around real examples and strategies that fit your setting.

Do you provide resources for staff to use afterwards?
Yes. Attendees receive take-away materials that summarise key ideas and provide practical next steps. Additional resources can be developed on request.
