Margaret Shaw, speech and language therapist at Sussex Speech Studio

About me

Hello, I'm Margaret Shaw, a Speech and Language Therapist and founder of Sussex Speech Studio. I've been supporting children and young people to find their voices and communicate with confidence for over twenty years.

I work mainly with school-age children who experience speech sound, language or social communication differences. Every child communicates in their own way. My role is to understand how your child connects with the world, and to help them build on those strengths so communication feels easier, more confident and more natural.

I began my career in the NHS in Brighton & Hove, working across special schools, mainstream settings, community clinics and a Child Development Centre. I supported children with a wide range of communication profiles, including those using AAC and those with eating and drinking differences.

In 2014 I moved to Singapore, where I worked in private paediatric clinics, including a role as Clinical Lead for early communication and AAC in one of the practices.

Wherever I've worked, one thing has always stayed the same. Progress is strongest when families, schools and therapists work together.

My sessions are designed around each child's interests, strengths and goals. I aim to make therapy engaging, flexible and meaningful - something that helps children feel proud of their progress and confident in how they communicate.

I have postgraduate training in speech sound disorders including childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), developmental language disorder (DLD), literacy intervention, social communication, early communication, AAC, and eating, drinking and swallowing.

Therapy is available in homes, schools or online across Brighton, Hove and surrounding areas of Sussex.

I am an HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist, a certified member of the Royal Collage of Speech and Language Therapists, and hold an enhanced DBS check.
