Taking the first step
Taking the first step towards speech and language therapy can feel like a big decision, but you don’t need to have it all figured out before you get in touch.
I’m always happy to talk things through and help you decide what kind of support might be most helpful for you and your child.
How it works
1. Get in touch
Use the contact form or email me directly at margaret@sussexspeechstudio.com. You can also leave a message on 07472 367193.
When you get in touch, you don’t need a referral. Just tell me a little about your child and what’s been happening with their communication.
2. Free initial phone call
I offer a short, free phone consultation to talk about your child’s communication, answer any questions, and decide together whether an assessment session or advice would be the best next step.
3. Assessment session
If we decide to go ahead, we’ll arrange a time for your child’s assessment. You’ll receive a short information sheet in advance explaining what to expect and how to prepare.
Sessions can take place at your home, your child’s school, or online, whichever feels most comfortable and convenient.
4. After the first session
You’ll receive clear feedback, recommendations, and a brief written summary.
If therapy is recommended, we’ll set goals together, with you, your child, and anyone else who supports them.
Children are always encouraged to be part of this process in a way that makes sense for them. Some children choose their own “communication goals”; others help decide what’s most important to practise first.
This shared approach helps children feel confident and motivated, and makes therapy more meaningful for everyone.
Where I work
I see children and families in Brighton, Hove, and surrounding areas of Sussex.
I also offer online sessions for families further afield, or when travel isn’t convenient.
Therapy can take place at home, at school, or online, whichever setting feels most comfortable and supportive for your child.
Availability
I currently have limited availability for new clients from January 2026.
Please contact me for up-to-date information or to join my waiting list.
Even if I’m full, I’m happy to offer guidance about next steps or share resources that might help in the meantime.
A final word
You don’t need to know exactly what kind of help your child needs before getting in touch, that’s what I’m here for.
Together, we’ll take the time to understand your child’s communication, listen to what’s important to them, and find the right way forward, one step at a time.
